ERIP is back for 2010!

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA), in cooperation with Horizon Utilities, is assisting Commercial, Industrial, Institutional and Agricultural customers to conserve energy and shift their loads from periods of peak demand to lower cost times of the day.

The objective of the program was to leverage energy conservation and load management opportunities by offering incentives for sustainable, measurable and verifiable energy retrofits that resulted in on-peak demand savings and/or annual energy savings.

Maintaining a reliable supply of electricity is a priority. By reducing peak demand, participating businesses will contribute to the increased viability of the overall supply.

Project Types

The Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program is made up of two project types:

Prescriptive – This project type has predefined measures with corresponding per unit incentives. These projects will tend to involve replacements and upgrades to existing systems. The incentive provided is based on the number of prescriptive measures installed. Applications for prescriptive projects must be submitted within 30 days of installation of the energy efficient equipment. Pre-approval may be requested for applicants to ensure availability of funds.

3 New Alternative Energy Measures have now been introduced!

Custom – This project type is available for customers requiring more specific solutions to electricity efficiency retrofitting using measures not included on the prescriptive measures list. Applications will be considered for projects that save ≥5 kW average peak demand. The incentive offered is calculated on the basis of demand savings as determined by a comparison between existing technology, equipment and systems and the new, more efficient technology, equipment and systems. Custom applications must be received by the utility and assessed for energy savings before approval and installation.

Note that an application can consist of both prescriptive and custom measures.

Incentives

Incentives will be available for projects that result in measurable reductions in electrical peak demand. The amount of the incentive awarded depends on the work being done. The incentive is calculated during the application process and must be verified after the work is completed.

Eligibility

Applicants must be General Service customers of Horizon Utilities.

Applicants may be owners or tenants of business premises supplied by Horizon Utilities.

Please note that if you are a tenant, you must obtain permission from the property owner for installation of the measures for which an incentive is claimed.

Timelines

This is a limited time offer and applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

A project application must be submitted to Horizon Utilities for approval prior to December 31, 2010. Eligible projects under this program must be completed (the "Project Deadline"), the earlier of 12 months after their application is approved by Horizon Utilities and prior to December 1, 2011.

Projects with an earlier in-service date will be given priority for approval. Horizon Utilities has an incentive budget for this Program.
